UNA Gallery Easter 2018 Group Exhibition 'Rejuvenation'

Norwich Contemporaries Explore Rejuvenation

UNA Gallery April 2018 Easter Show

UNA Gallery are delighted to return to St. Mary’s Shoe Factory for our latest exhibition. We worked here in the summer of 2017 and were of the understanding that shortly after our show, the venue would be redeveloped into commercial and residential properties. It appears now that the building project has been put on hold and that the Shoe Factory can be rejuvenated as a highly valuable arts space.

So it was with much gratitude that we once again used this amazing space for exhibition which took place over the Easter 2018 period. We scheduled the exhibition during the Easter festivities to allude to the theme of rejuvenation and introduce the summer season which is always very active and interesting in Norwich. For this exhibition we were pleased to present 39 artists each using painting, installation, sculpture, illustration, photography or many other mediums. The exhibition ran daily 11am – 4pm from Monday 26th March until Sunday 8th April.

Norwich is a hive of creativity and we want to showcase some of the incredible work that goes on in the city in the very special building kindly loaned to us for the month by The Shoe Factory Social Club. As an old shoe factory St. Mary’s Works is a huge space with large windows that on sunny days is flooded with light. As soon as we saw the building we wanted to do a show here and its natural attributes are what gave rise to the themes of light and space.

UNA Gallery likes big confident works that make us of interesting materials and techniques, bold colours, geometric designs, abstract forms and distinctive markings. We also like works that are witty, playful and process led. We have included a lot of such works in the show and with so many artists in the show many unique relationships have formed between the works, the artists and the building. Be it a shared palette, related techniques, similar materials or more abstracted and conceptual relationships, we feel it is these connections that harmonise the show and create the visual and emotional atmosphere that we were searching for. By exposing these artists work to new communities and audiences we hope to help sustain their practice and give them key skills and networks essential to the world of creative professional practice and we thank you for your support.
